Why am I getting "The voice may violate ElevenLabs Terms of Service" error during TTS?
Last updated: January 29, 2026
Context
When using Sync's text-to-speech (TTS) feature, you may encounter an error message stating "The voice may violate ElevenLabs Terms of Service and requires verification. Please try with a different voice or contact support." This error prevents you from generating audio using certain voices or content.
Answer
This error originates directly from ElevenLabs, our TTS provider, not from Sync itself. ElevenLabs automatically flags voices or content that may violate their Terms of Service, which can include:
Voices of famous personalities or public figures
Content that is harmful or inappropriate
Voices that imitate restricted or copyrighted material
To resolve this issue, you have two options:
Option 1: Use Different Voice or Content
Try using a different voice sample that doesn't violate ElevenLabs' terms
Modify your script content if it contains inappropriate material
If cloning a voice, try using a different audio sample until the error no longer appears
Option 2: Use External TTS Service
Generate your audio using a different TTS service or platform
Import the generated audio file into Sync
Use Sync for lip-sync functionality only
